Hi my name is Ciaran. Here at Ciaran’s Custom Computers we are a family run business, that aims to bring the joy of computing both creative and gaming to our customers, from a high-end VR gaming PC down to a functional office computer for everyday use. Particularly we wanted to bring the flexibility and customisation of building your own PC without the painstaking hours of research, bargain hunting for the best deals, and of course the stress involved with putting it all together.

I have always been interested in gaming from a young age; from Chuckie Egg on the BBC Micro, to my family’s first console in the NES right up to watching teams compete for millions in prize money in the biggest e-Sports tournaments. Games have always had a prominent influence on my life. My interest in PCs began by poking and prodding in my family computer and learning how each part works.  About 15 years ago I took the plunge, trusting my own skills, by picking out each part and building my own pc. I have never looked back since : from there I moved on to helping friends and family members with theirs. In 2009 I graduated with an honours degree from the Factuality of Computing and Engineering, University of Ulster.  

Computer games are now the single largest entertainment sector, beating both TV/Film and Music. With the rise of broadband and the remarkable advancement in technology there has never been a better time to get into computing, be it a top of the range virtual reality capable gaming system, to a powerful multi-core creative workstation or simply a well made desktop for light entertainment and office work.

Last year after spending time with the wonderful and talented staff up at VC Computers, Letterkenny I realised that I enjoyed day to day tasks involved in this line of work, and so I started my own business in Ciaran’s Custom Computers.

We buy in each individual component for your build: we don’t include any part that you don’t need to drive up costs. We ensure that every component is the right choice for your needs and budget. Unlike some of the big high street shops that sell prebuilt computers, who tend to go cheap on the less glamorous parts like memory, motherboard and power supplies, we ensure only quality brands and the right components go into your build for optimum performance

Larger companies typically only advertise the big components like processor and graphics card while only telling you the total amount of things like hard drive space, RAM and power supply wattage, leaving out vital information such as the branding/manufacturer of these parts, and things like the core count and clock speed of your GPU/CPU, or the speed of your RAM, all of which have a fundamental impact on your computer's performance, upgradeability and longevity. 

They are also built with little thought to the future and possible upgrades, as they are designed only to work the way they are bought. Try and upgrade your GPU and you may find your power supply is not up to it, try to put in more RAM and there may be no space for it! Here at Ciaran’s customs since each build is personalised to your needs and budget,  we will clearly inform you of each individual part, while highlighting any possible limitations. At the same time  informing you of the best potential future upgrades for your system. This is not only better for your bank account  but better for the environment

A personal service for a personalised computer.

As you probably already know, modern games can be upwards of 50GB in size, and on a slow internet connection this can mean hours if not days of downloading. So, for the month of September we are offering our Game Ready Service for free.

Typically, when you get a new PC you can't just turn it on and game, you have to download and install your games, configure settings, and wait for updates. With the "Game Ready Service" we will have everything ready to go as soon as you turn it on. We will also pick out our own personal favourite programs for monitoring your PC, as well as go beyond the standard checks, running benchmarks and further tests to ensure that the computer is running at an optimum level.
