Information regarding Intel's upcoming mainstream 6-core CPU, “Coffee Lake” has been steadily trickling out, with reports now becoming somewhat more frequent.

Within the last 24 hours, an article on OC3d.net has claimed to reveal the final specification of Intel's i7 8700K, stating that this data has originated from a source which is not only reliable when Intel leaks are concerned, but is also consistent with other recent Intel leaks, such as the CPU's reported 12MB of L3 Cache, 95W TDP and base clock speed of 3.7GHz. However, this should be taken with a pinch of salt, as OC3d.net source is taken from a user post own their forum, how reliable that user is I cannot say.

If proven true, what it means is that the new i7 8700K will feature a sort of tiered turbo clock, with all 6 cores having the same base of 3.7GHz and a tubro of 4.3GHz, while 4/6 will get to 4.4GHz, 2/6 will get to 4.6GHz, and one lucky core will get right up to 4.7GHz. Which initially sounds a wee bit strange, but what it translates to is that the 8700K will not only be a 6 core power house @4.3GHz but it will also have awesome single core performance in games and applications that only make use of one core, whilst providing better temperatures and power draw than if all 6 cores tried to reach that high level. One can also hope, with sufficient cooling, maybe the new i7 can be successfully overclocked to run all 6 cores at that high level.
