This news has been met with some split opinions, one camp see it as "This is good, they are taking their time to make a proper port", while the other side may maintain that "This shouldn't take so long they clearly don't care for PC". I have't personally invested enough time into it to make a decision one way or another. Admittedly, MH has always been one of them games that I like the look of and felt I would love but never got into, so I see any chance to try it out on PC as a positive, and who knows maybe by the time it hits there will already be an Ultimate version which will be the one to drop on PC.
The fact that it is so long after console release pretty much guarantees that any fan that owns both a PC and console will have their mind made up for them and be forced to go with the console or risk having the game spoiled or miss out on that new game buzz that builds on big releases. I just hope there is still some of that left and enough players wanting to get it by the time the PC version comes out, not just for an active community, but also to ensure future PC releases.
The Game its self looks awesome. Check out the announcement and most recent trailer below.
Speaking to gaming site GamesRadar the game's producer Ryozo Tsujimoto has explained why they are taking such a long time after console release to bring the game over to PC.
"For the main Monster Hunter game, this is our first PC title and it’s something we want to make sure we get right. So rather than have it taking up resources during the console development and not it not being able to have our full attention on it. We want to get console out the door and then we’re going to take some extra time and try and get the PC version as good as possible." "There's extra work you need for PC as well. On console you use first party matchmaking, you just kind of plug into it, whether it’s PSN or Xbox Live, but on PC we’re going to have to work more to get our own matchmaking working. So, hopefully, PC users won’t mind waiting a little bit longer for us to bring you a really great optimised PC experience." |
This is the best reason they could of give for a delay and respect needs to be given for openly admitting to having no experience with PC releases. He clearly wants to make the game right and to the best of the team’s ability. If they had taken the time before console release to get the PC version working it might have meant both getting a sub-par PC release and possibly impacting on the quality of the finished console product as well.
It is a pity it seems to be taking so long but personally I’d rather wait for a well made game than get a halfassed version that is poorly optimised. Taking the time they need after the game has been finished on console means that they can fully give the PC version all the attention they need to get it right. The only thing is they need to get it right now, if they leave this sort of delay then make this statement and still bring out a bad port, then questions will rightly be asked.
